KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the rationalisation of RON95 subsidies remains off the table for now, prioritizing the public’s understanding of targeted diesel subsidies first. Speaking at the National Tax Conference 2024, he emphasized the need to address the diesel issue to prevent misinformation.

Anwar, also the Finance Minister, highlighted the importance of subsidy rationalisation to balance increasing government revenue and reducing national debt. Measures to boost revenue include prudent spending, necessary borrowing for development, efficient law enforcement, and enhanced taxation efforts, aiming to reduce the government’s annual borrowings.
