KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has upheld a seven-year prison sentence and two strokes of the rotan for Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, deeming it appropriate for his offences of criminal breach of trust (CBT) and money laundering. Justice Azhar Abdul Hamid emphasized Syed Saddiq’s role as a public figure and youth role model. Syed Saddiq, also fined RM10 million, is appealing the decision. Convicted of misappropriating RM1 million of party funds and laundering RM100,000, the court highlighted his actions as breaches of trust and bad faith. Despite the sentence, Azhar noted Saddiq has time to reform.
