Singapore’s Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS) has issued a new advisory discouraging dog owners from using electronic shock collars and prong collars due to their potential to cause harm. These aversive training devices, which are easily available online, inflict pain or discomfort to curb undesirable behaviour. The advisory, launched by Minister of State Alvin Tan during a pet event on July 26, promotes positive, reward-based training instead. AVS is also reviewing whether such training tools should be licensed under the Animals and Birds Act. The advisory was developed with input from a workgroup of vets, trainers, welfare groups, and enforcement agencies.
