KUALA LUMPUR – A protest initially planned against the Urban Renewal Act turned into a major rally demanding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s resignation. Former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin led the crowd, with Mahathir mocking Anwar and calling his leadership a failure. While organisers claimed 300,000 attendees, police estimated 10,000–15,000. Mahathir accused Anwar of dodging legal accountability, while Muhyiddin criticised the government’s handling of inflation and aid distribution. The rally at Dataran Merdeka reflects rising public frustration with Anwar’s administration, which opponents say has failed to deliver on economic promises.
