Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) reported that nearly 45,700 foreign visitors were denied entry through checkpoints in 2025, marking a 38.3 per cent increase compared to 2024, following stricter risk screening measures to detect potential overstaying, illegal work and security threats.
Foreign visitors refused entry in Singapore rise amid tighter ICA checks
The ICA said the rise reflects enhanced data-driven border profiling and checkpoints automation, leading to more effective identification of high-risk travellers, vehicles and cargo before arrival.
Officials added that passport-free clearance at major checkpoints has allowed immigration officers to be reassigned to inbound targeting duties, strengthening Singapore’s border security while managing growing volumes of cross-border movement.
