SINGAPORE — A woman has sparked discussion online after noticing a rise in negative posts about Chinese New Year (CNY), questioning whether the festive spirit is fading. She expressed sadness that “tradition is dying,” noting that many locals now complain about awkward conversations, intrusive questions, and stressful gatherings. Social media users responded that those who enjoy CNY rarely post about it because they are “too busy celebrating,” while negativity tends to dominate online spaces. Others said sharing positive experiences often leads to being seen as “out of touch.”

Some users, however, highlighted what they still cherish — from large family reunions to helping younger relatives maintain kinship. Several added that preserving traditions will soon fall to the younger generation. Some say the younger generation are so free to talk about everything and criticise but are less conscious of what the elders have done for them. The debate is on!
