Scammers in Singapore are telling their victims that their banking cards have been compromised and they should give them access to fix it. This has led police to warn of phishing attacks after 10 people lost over $70,000.
Pretending to be bank employees, they ask for banking information such as passwords etc and the Singaporeans would readily give them the info. This makes it easy for the scammers to access the accounts and take the cash.
The worst part is the bank account owners will also give the one time password or OTP they receive on their mobile devices to the scammers! Since January 2022, at least 66 victims have fallen prey, with total losses amounting to at least $466,000.
