A woman lost RM115,786 to a phone scam syndicate impersonating authorities. Taiping district police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the 25-year-old student received a call from a man impersonating a Chinese embassy representative on Jan 13.

The victim, fearing prosecution for money laundering, provided her details and transferred money into five accounts between Jan 15 and Feb 4. She realized the scam upon visiting the police station. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
