The Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA) has allocated RM755,390 this year to improve teaching and learning facilities at 21 Tamil national-type schools (SJKT) across Melaka. Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the funding supports several initiatives, including MADANI furniture assistance, tuition programmes and digital learning equipment such as smartboards. The programmes are being implemented through cooperation between MITRA, the Education Ministry, school administrators and boards of governors to ensure assistance reaches students who need it.
Education Funding Targets Better Facilities and Digital Learning Access
Ramanan made the announcement during a visit to SJKT Jasin Lalang in Ayer Merbau, which received RM47,560 under the initiative. He said the assistance forms part of a broader effort to strengthen educational opportunities for Indian students at different stages of their academic journey.
The programmes cover students from preschool through to public and private higher education institutions. Ramanan said MITRA’s approach focuses on supporting the wider education ecosystem, rather than limiting assistance to individual schools or specific age groups. Expanding access to technology and digital learning tools is also a priority, as schools adapt to changing educational needs and prepare students for a more technology-driven future.
MITRA has channelled RM755,390 to 21 Tamil schools in Melaka for facility upgrades, tuition assistance and digital learning equipment.
