The first omicron death in the world is from the UK

The UK government on Monday officially announced the death of a person, who was reportedly infected with the Omicron variant, the BBC says. It appears this is the first registered death from omicron in the world.

Up Until now, the new variant has spread like wildfire, having been discovered in 63 countries, and WHO believes it is on track to overtake the Delta variant in the race of transmission.

The Guardian however says the government’s most senior public health adviser has warned that the number of Omicron infections in the UK could reach 1 million per day by the end of December, amid growing calls to limit Christmas gatherings.
