Targeted Toll Relief Proposed: Cash Credits for B40, M40

The government is exploring targeted toll exemptions by crediting equivalent cash amounts into the e-wallets of B40 and M40 road users, suggested Prof. Dr. Hassan Abu Bakar from Universiti Utara Malaysia. He proposed allocating RM30 to RM50 monthly based on PADU database records. For long-term solutions, he recommended the government take over highway operations, leaving construction to private firms via open tenders, to better regulate toll rates. Anwar Ibrahim recently emphasized refining targeted relief during festive seasons, aligning with subsidy adjustments to benefit lower and middle-income groups. A 50% discount for Chinese New Year 2025 was announced earlier.
