U.S. President Donald Trump said he could “take the oil in Iran” and seize Kharg Island, the country’s main export hub, as the Middle East conflict entered its fifth week. Speaking to the Financial Times, Trump compared the idea to U.S. operations in Venezuela earlier this year, where Washington gained control of the oil industry after capturing Nicolas Maduro.

His comments come amid escalating hostilities between U.S.-Israel and Iran, with crude prices surging — Brent futures rose to $115.86 per barrel, while WTI hit $102.80. The Pentagon is reportedly preparing for weeks of potential ground conflict as thousands of U.S. troops arrive in the region.
Meanwhile, Kuwait reported Iranian attacks on a desalination and power plant, killing one worker, while Houthi forces launched missiles at Israel. The strikes highlight growing risks to critical infrastructure and energy supplies across the Gulf, raising fears of wider instability.
