Umno expressed sadness over the postponement of Najib Razak’s pardon hearing but reaffirmed its loyalty to the monarchy.

Party president Zahid Hamidi told reporters, “We are saddened by the decision,” while appealing to Yang di‑Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim to make the best judgment for Najib.

The Pardons Board meeting for the Federal Territories decided to defer Najib’s application, even as Sultan Ibrahim approved clemency for 65 other prisoners.

Najib continues to serve his sentence for the SRC International case, reduced in 2024 from 12 years to six years, with his fine cut from RM210 million to RM50 million. He also faces ongoing corruption charges linked to 1MDB, with appeals scheduled for 2025.

Umno secretary‑general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki echoed Zahid’s remarks, stressing respect for the King’s prerogative powers under the constitution.

He criticized selective attitudes toward clemency, saying it was unfair to support pardons for some leaders while opposing them for others.

The postponement underscores the political sensitivity surrounding Najib’s case, with Pakatan Harapan leaders reportedly preparing to oppose further clemency.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is expected to seek an audience with the King before the next Pardons Board meeting.
