Umno has reaffirmed its stance of rebuilding strength independently, without relying on the protection or goodwill of other parties.
Speaking at the opening of the Umno Youth, Wanita, and Puteri assemblies in Kuala Lumpur, Deputy President Mohamad Hasan stressed that the party must not depend on PAS, Perikatan Nasional (PN), or even its current partner Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the federal level.
Umno-BN Ties With PH Strained Amid Independence Push
“Umno does not like to be indebted, let alone hope for shelter from other parties for Malay support,” he declared.
Mohamad emphasized that past experiences have taught Umno the risks of relying on political allies, noting that the party must instead draw on its own history of resilience to regain Malay trust.
His remarks come amid increasingly strained ties between Umno‑BN and PH, while PAS‑PN signals openness to reconciliation.
Mohamad, however, warned against repeating past mistakes, recalling how Umno had been “played” in previous unity politics. He insisted that Umno’s survival cannot be tied to the calculations or strength of other parties, particularly DAP.
“Depending on kindness and assistance is never Umno’s thinking,” he said, adding that the party will not allow itself to be manipulated again.
