Brothers Get Court Approval to Challenge 39-Storey Towers Near Home

Brothers Get Court Approval to Challenge 39-Storey Towers Near Home

Two brothers have obtained High Court permission to challenge Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s approval for two 39-storey residential towers planned less than 11 metres from their 69-year-old home along Jalan Klang Lama.

The court also granted an interim stay on the development until October 8, when their application for a permanent stay will be heard.

Residents Raise Traffic, Flood and Environmental Concerns

The brothers are seeking to overturn a development order issued on January 20 and building plan approved on March 10. The proposed project would contain 1,544 residential units and a hawker centre across three lots.

They argued that the development could significantly increase traffic, with potentially 2,000 to 3,000 additional vehicles entering the area.

Other concerns raised include construction noise and dust, flooding, privacy and the already high density of the neighbourhood. The brothers also alleged that no environmental impact assessment had been conducted and claimed the approval did not comply with relevant planning requirements, including notification to adjoining landowners.

The judicial review will now determine whether their challenge can proceed against the development approvals.
