MELAKA, Nov 8 — Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has called on Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters in Melaka to back PAS candidates in constituencies where BN is not fielding representatives, underscoring cooperation between the parties during the state election campaign.
Speaking at a campaign event in Duyong, Khairy said BN and Umno members must demonstrate discipline by supporting agreed candidates under the electoral arrangement between the parties. He cited Bukit Katil as an example, noting that PAS is contesting the seat while BN has chosen not to field a candidate there.
Vote PAS
According to Khairy, BN voters should transfer their support to the PAS candidate in Bukit Katil as part of the understanding reached between the coalition partners. He said such cooperation was necessary to ensure commitments made during seat negotiations were honoured at the ballot box.
Khairy also urged PAS supporters to reciprocate in areas where the Islamist party is not contesting. Referring to Duyong, he called on PAS members and campaign machinery to support BN candidate Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem.
He said the cooperation reflected a broader effort to strengthen consensus within the Malay-Muslim community. Khairy added that mutual support between the parties was essential in constituencies where one side had stepped aside for the other.
