PARIS – Almost 38 per cent of cancer cases worldwide could have been prevented in 2022 by reducing exposure to risk factors, according to new WHO research. Tobacco accounted for 15 per cent of cases, followed by infections at 10 per cent and alcohol at 3 per cent. Other contributors included obesity, poor diet, lack of exercise, UV radiation, and workplace hazards.
Cancer Case
Lung, stomach, and cervical cancers made up nearly half of preventable cases. WHO urged stronger tobacco and alcohol controls, HPV vaccination, improved air quality, and healthier lifestyles to cut the global cancer burden.
