Recently a fashion TikToker answered a question from her viewers asking why is Zara more expensive than their other fast fashion counterparts. The reasoning is that Zara is always at higher end malls, malls that also have Gucci, Balenciaga, Dior and so on.
These shopping malls are usually in the city center, regardless of what country you are in. Zara stores are always in the heart of the city. For example, in Malaysia the Zara stores are located at Pavilion KL, KLCC, Midvalley. Rents at these malls are generally more expensive.
Furthermore, the looks that Zara copies from higher end designers are of good quality and well copied. They achieve the expensive look while not costing thousands of Ringgit per item unlike luxury brands. However, in her comments, people did mention that Zara is still considered at the higher end due to their prices.
