Woman Arrested at KLIA for Smuggling Siamangs Worth RM120k

A 39-year-old local woman was arrested at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on February 28 for attempting to smuggle four siamang gibbons worth RM120,000. The arrest was carried out by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) with Aviation Security Division (AVSEC) after a baggage inspection on a flight bound for Tiruchirapally, India. 

Woman Arrested for Smuggling Siamangs

Perhilitan Director-General Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said the woman is suspected to be a paid mule. The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 and the International Trade in Endangered Species Act 2008. Siamangs are endangered primates native to Malaysia.
