A 53-year-old woman in Alor Setar was deceived by a love scam syndicate, losing RM925,850. The victim connected with a man claiming to be from Yemen via Facebook on Jan 26, 2024, and continued communication on WhatsApp. He sent her two rings as a marriage promise. On Feb 5, 2024, he claimed hospitalization and borrowed money, leading to 166 transactions to 15 bank accounts until March 25, 2024. Realizing the scam when he blocked her on Facebook, she reported it on May 12. The suspect told the complainant that he had been hospitalised and needed to borrow money for his treatment, promising to repay her when he came to Malaysia to marry her.
