Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has dismissed suggestions that the issue of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s conditional pardon could damage the BN-PH relationship, Malay Mail reported, citing Bernama.

Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, was speaking to Malaysian media at a press conference in Istanbul on Sunday (Nov 8), at the end of his four-day working visit to Türkiye.

He was asked whether the matter involving the former prime minister’s conditional pardon could affect ties between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) within the unity government.

BN-PH Relationship Still Good, Says Zahid

“There are no problems in terms of our relationship,” Zahid said, according to the report.

He said differences in political views and positions among the parties in the unity government had not affected the running of the government.

According to Zahid, working relations between BN and PH in the government remain good, with ministries being managed and weekly Cabinet meetings held smoothly and professionally.

He added that there had been no disputes over the past four years.

Differences Handled With Maturity

Zahid said differences between the parties should be handled maturely, especially when political situations at the federal and state levels are not the same.

He pointed to the previous Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, as well as the ongoing Melaka state election campaign, as examples where positions at the state level have differed.

Zahid described political maturity in Malaysia as being at an almost optimum level.

He said that even though political moves may differ, they would not affect the country’s political stability, the report added.
