The Sarawak government has come back with a statement on the controversial Jetty that was constructed in Kampung Muatap. The main reason for the cost was due to the river being infested with crocodiles. This increased the cost of the bridge as safety measures needed to be in place for the construction workers in avoiding them.
It has been alleged that the ketua kampung requested for the bridge to be made out of a stronger material, like steel, however the Sarawak government mentioned that they have used belian timber which is already robust enough for the Jetty’s usage. Cost factors were one of the reasons why they instead went along with a timber construction rather than a steel one.

Some netizens mentioned that the costs are high due to it being subcontracted at multiple levels and others mentioned that using concrete would be cheaper than belian timber. The most general thought out there on this situation is that the netizens feel that the government is treating them like they’re dumb and helpless by giving excuses after excuses, statements after statements when asked simple questions. @LatestMalaysia
