The Thai Red Cross warns people not to sell their kidneys to buy a new iPhone 14. However, the story claiming Thai people are selling their kidneys or body parts in order to flash the same-looking phone models as its previous offerings are not true.

The picture is that of a campaign by the Thai authorities to urge its people not to get involved in organ trafficking and the campaign uses a joke with a picture from Laos. The joke is that people would be willing to sell their kidneys for the new iPhones.

Sophon Mekthon, the managing director of the Organ Donation Centre under the Thai Red Cross Society, however, took the joke seriously and condemned the image, saying “There is no organ trading. That is prohibited. It is inappropriate to suggest selling organs, especially to get money to buy an iPhone. It is morally wrong and unethical.”
