Cathay Pacific’s free ticket giveaway in Singapore was a smashing success, with more people in the queue than the number of passengers they can carry. But there was a catch, an irritable one because Singaporeans found out there is no such thing as a free ticket.
One lucky winner reported receiving a ticket redemption code in the email, which they could use to get a ‘discount’ on Cathay’s flights. A discount, not a free ticket? They got played out?
Cathay Pacific Shock!
But, as always, the fine print had a surprise in store. The discounted ticket turned out to be a mirage, with hidden carrier surcharges and taxes that brought the final price to S$474.50. When they key in the ‘discount’ winning code, the ticket came to price of S$194.50. It’s a good thing they didn’t charge extra for the heart palpitations caused by the shock! Beware folks when Airlines beg you to compete for ‘free’ tickets.
