Some Twitter users are stating that the wave of “pengemis” or known as beggars, attempting to sell tissues to people when they are at restaurants or banks and other institutions are non Malaysians. Furthermore, there are bold claims stating that these people are actually scammers or working for scammers.
Tissue pengemis scam?
The Twitter page that posted this information gives unsound advise to locals on how to deal with them. However, people with kinder hearts state that it is entirely up to the individuals approached to donate to them or not.
There are other claims that being a beggar in Malaysia can make you up to RM8,500/month. It is unclear where the source is but Astro Awani previously published an article in 2015 saying that some can make up to RM18,000 a month. Nevertheless, in the month of Ramadan, Muslims are advised to give more and take less. Do you part.
