It is over for Najib Razak, our ex-PM after the Federal Court has in a majority decision rejected his attempt to get out of jail with a review of his conviction and sentence in the SRC International case.

On July 28, 2020, Najib was convicted by Justice Nazlan Ghazali, then a High Court judge, for abuse of power, money laundering and criminal breach of trust (CBT) over SRC funds amounting to RM42 million but he tried to dismiss the judge and wanted a review of the case.

The fate Najib is now confirmed as the Federal Court decides on his application in the SRC review of the RM42 million SRC International corruption case.

The five-person Federal Court bench, led by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Abdul Rahman Sebli, will deliver the verdict tomorrow, which could lead to the complete acquittal of Najib on seven charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering.

His lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, argued that Najib’s previous solicitors were incompetent in handling his appeal at the Apex Court, raising the stakes for the high-stakes decision.

SRC REVIEW – What’s Up?

Shafee argued that his previous solicitors were incompetent, resulting in his imprisonment. He also claims his client was left unrepresented and unable to cite 94 grounds in his final appeal to challenge his conviction.

Meanwhile, lead proseutor Datuk V. Sithambaram argued that Najib has only himself to blame when he lost the plot during the final appeal with all the drama about his lawyers. The SRC Review verdict is today.
