According to Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Indonesia has made progress in providing humanitarian aid to the crisis-stricken Myanmar. He has been on it since taking over as Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this year.
Indonesia’s stance against Myanmar
Jakarta has called for an end to violence and expressed concern over the increasing number of civilian casualties. Marsudi stated that Indonesia facilitated the reopening of communication and consultation with various stakeholders on humanitarian aid to Myanmar. The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) will provide aid to those in need in Myanmar, regardless of their ethnic background, religion, or political orientation.
This development is seen as a breakthrough. The nation is also working to implement the Five-Point Consensus, a peace plan agreed upon by all ASEAN leaders, to end the crisis in Myanmar. In addition to this, Indonesia has several other items on the agenda as the Chair of ASEAN, such as promoting sustainability and resilience, strengthening healthcare architecture, financial stability, and digitisation of the economy and tourism.
