Kedah is urging the federal government to allocate a special payment of RM270 million annually for the purpose of conserving protected forests and preserving paddy fields in the state. Sanusi stated that Kedah is unable to generate income through the conservation of the 341,000-hectare Ulu Muda forest, which serves as a vital water catchment area for Kedah, Perlis, and Penang.

He further emphasized that a similar situation exists in the paddy field areas of the state, where it is responsible for supplying 43% of the nation’s rice demand and cannot be reused, thereby denying Kedah the opportunity to obtain higher land premiums.

Netizens are criticizing the Kedah MB for making such statements. They state that the previous MBs would never consistently request extra money from the federal government.

Others are stating that during the coalition government when Perikatan Nasional was in power, the MB did not make such statements. It seems that the general public is calling bluff on the whole situation.
