According to Member of Parliament Hassan Karim, a leader doesn’t necessarily need personal experience of poverty to comprehend the issue and assist those in need. Hassan made this statement while defending Anwar Ibrahim against claims by Kedah Chief Minister Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who alleged that the prime minister had no understanding of poverty.
Kedah Chief Minister’s statement refuted
Hassan provided examples of leaders who have worked to help the impoverished, even without experiencing it themselves. He mentioned the second prime minister, Abdul Razak Hussein, who was hailed as the Father of Development for his policies supporting low-income individuals.
Hassan also questioned Sanusi’s knowledge of historical figures, such as Tun Abdul Razak, who studied at MCKK and came from a noble family but still advocated for the welfare of the poor. Hassan urged Sanusi to moderate his remarks and extend a friendly gesture to Anwar as the Kedah chief minister.
