The luxury fashion house Chanel has been under scrutiny lately by several influencers. The quality of some of their products have allegedly gone down. However, the brand’s CEO Leena Nair assures customers that the quality is their utmost priority. But, unfortunately for the brand, many users equate Zara, the fast fashion house to the brand.

According to VOX, British designer Carrie Anne Roberts, founder of Mère Soeur, discovered her “Raising the Future” T-shirt design, a best-seller among her ‘mamamerch,’ was replicated by Old Navy and sold at a lower price.

This incident highlights the broader issue of large brands copying smaller designers, a practice not fully deterred by outdated US copyright laws, leaving creative fashion vulnerable to rampant knockoffs.

The same can be said for Chanel and Zara, as the latter tends to copy the designer’s look with tweed and the female suits.

A TikToker went into Chanel and showed the colorful outfits they have to offer. However, for the most part, many would be confused if it is even Chanel in lieu of the type of items they’re offering now. One of the few key indicators today is that their logos are on most of the pieces they sell.

Additionally, the discussion within the comments section shows that a lot of customers feel the same way. But, there could be some of those who have never purchased a fashion item from the brand before and may not know the actual difference between the two brands. Despite the alleged decline in quality, Chanel would still be made of better materials than a fast fashion brand.

Regardless, investing.com states, Chanel’s sales soared to $20 billion, doubling in a decade, with price hikes driving growth. Post-Lagerfeld, Viard’s departure sparks replacement speculation. Amidst industry-wide price surges, Chanel’s iconic bags now exceed 10,000 euros, prompting critiques and investor concerns over alienating consumers.

Luxury brands face a reckoning as fewer can afford high-end goods, challenging the justification for further price increases. Competitors like Saint Laurent adjust, signaling a shift in strategy.
