The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has urged social media platforms to remove allegedly leaked information related to the murder investigation of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, warning that such content could disrupt the ongoing trial.
MCMC Acts against spreading false information in Zayn Rayyan case
“MCMC has requested platforms like TikTok and Telegram to take down this content, as spreading alleged investigation details is irresponsible and can interfere with the trial,” the statement read.
Sharing unverified or false information is an offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, punishable by up to one year in prison, a RM50,000 fine, or both.
Last Thursday, Zayn’s parents were charged with neglect potentially causing physical harm. On December 6, Zayn’s body was found in a river near his home in Damansara Damai, Selangor, with autopsy results indicating murder.
