MELAKA: A food seller was fined RM200 by the Melaka Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) for charging an additional one percent for QR Code transactions. The raid at Medan Selera Jalan Tun Ali was initiated after a customer reported a 10 sen surcharge on a RM3.70 breakfast.

Melaka KPDN director Norena Jaafar stated that the trader falsely claimed the extra charge was to cover banking service fees. This incident is the first of its kind in Melaka this year. Norena urged consumers to check receipts and prices to avoid unnoticed additional charges. Further investigation is ongoing.
