This claim, captured in a circulating video on X, was refuted by Batu Pahat MP Onn Abu Bakar, who clarified that rumors of government-increased steel prices were false and dated back to 2021 under Perikatan Nasional. When asked for her source, Mumtaz cited Facebook. Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Md Nor then warned against using false social media information in Parliament. Mumtaz retracted her claims but defended her stance, arguing that the government should control any potential price increases.
