417 Detained in Raid on Unlicensed Entertainment Outlet on Jalan Sultan Ismail

Police detained 417 people in a raid on an entertainment outlet suspected of operating without a valid licence on Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur, early on Sunday, 1 November.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Azwan Amin Nordin said the operation followed information that the premises had no valid licence and were allegedly linked to drug abuse.

The raid ran from 2.30am to 10.30am. Those detained were 299 men and 118 women. They included the premises’ caretakers, workers and patrons, and four Bangladeshi nationals. All were taken to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters for documentation and urine screening tests.

In a separate raid at around 2am, police detained eight people, including six foreigners, at another unlicensed entertainment centre on Jalan Tun Razak.

The urine screening results have not been announced. Being detained does not mean a person has committed an offence, and the police statements do not say what drugs were found, if any, or whether charges will follow.
