Brothers Now Face Off in Melaka Election: Akmal Saleh and brother contest in rival parties

MELAKA, Aug 16 — The upcoming Melaka state election will see brothers Dr Muhammad Solehin Saleh and Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh contesting against each other under rival parties, turning family ties into a gripping subplot of the polls. Dr Solehin, 40, recently resigned from Amanah and is now Parti Bersama Malaysia’s candidate for Bemban, while his younger brother Dr Akmal serves as Umno Youth chief.

Despite the political clash, Solehin insists their bond remains unshaken. “Politics is not a religion. The bond between siblings is more important,” he said, stressing that family unity outweighs party rivalry.

Both brothers have long histories of community service, often working side by side before entering different political paths.

Solehin’s familiarity with Bemban, gained as a Jasin municipal councillor, shaped his decision to contest. Bersama unveiled 15 candidates for the 28-seat assembly, with founder Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli present at the launch.
