Akmal, who is also a Merlimau assemblyman, noted that allegations of misappropriation have circulated for years without charges proven against any individual.
Anwar, speaking in Seremban, expressed frustration that some remain unaware of past abuses involving Tabung Haji and 1MDB, pointing to billions allegedly stolen.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Zulkifli Hasan clarified that claims of strategic asset sales were false, explaining that problematic assets were transferred to Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd in 2018 as part of a government‑backed rescue.
He highlighted that Tabung Haji’s deposits have since grown to RM95.1 billion, with profit distribution rising to 3.5% by 2025, the highest in eight years.
