DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke confirmed today that he has submitted his resignation letter as Transport Minister to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Loke said he met Anwar yesterday to hand over the letter, but the Prime Minister asked him to remain in the post temporarily while awaiting a final decision.
“The Prime Minister will decide, but I also told him there must be a timeline,” Loke told reporters after officiating Malaysia Maritime Week 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.

When pressed about when his resignation would take effect, Loke gave a striking response: “When (former prime minister) Najib Razak is released and returns home. On the day he goes home, my resignation will take effect.”
This statement directly links his departure to Najib’s release, a politically sensitive issue that has drawn widespread attention. Najib, who was convicted in the 1MDB scandal, has been at the center of national debate over justice, governance, and political accountability.
Loke’s announcement adds a new dimension to Malaysia’s political landscape, signaling potential shifts within the government. For now, he remains in office, but his conditional resignation underscores the tension surrounding Najib’s legal fate and its broader impact on the country’s leadership.
