Speaking at the national-level Hawkers and Small Traders Day Carnival 2026 in Kajang, Selangor, Anwar emphasized that micro-traders and informal hawkers constitute the foundational bedrock of Malaysia’s domestic economy. The Prime Minister shared that while an initial support package of RM100,000 was originally considered, he determined that a RM1 million disbursement was necessary to meaningfully address the needs of hundreds of thousands of stall owners and trade associations operating across urban and rural markets. The funds are earmarked for capacity-building programs, equipment upgrades, business digitalization initiatives, and financial relief schemes designed to boost daily trader incomes.

Flanked by Entrepreneur Development Minister Steven Sim, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, and Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Anwar stressed that sustainable economic growth must be inclusive, ensuring that lower-income entrepreneurs benefit directly from national prosperity. He directed the ministry to implement transparent disbursement guidelines so that trade associations can quickly access micro-grants and operational aid without red tape. Representatives from the Federation of Malay Hawkers and Small Traders Associations welcomed the announcement, noting that targeted federal assistance will cushion small vendors against rising operational overheads, bolster local commerce, and encourage young entrepreneurs to enter the micro-retail sector.
