KPDN to Step Up Enforcement Against Hidden Food Delivery Charges From January 2027

KPDN to Step Up Enforcement Against Hidden Food Delivery Charges From January 2027

Have you ever picked a meal based on its advertised price, only to find a higher total at checkout? For many food delivery and restaurant customers, the final bill is a surprise because the sales and service tax (SST) and platform fees are added only at the last stage.

The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) says restaurants and delivery platforms may not advertise prices that exclude these charges.

SST and Platform Fees Must Be Included in Advertised Prices, Says KPDN

Traders must comply immediately, he said, and the ministry is also holding engagement sessions with delivery platforms.

From 2023 to this year, KPDN opened 64 cases and issued compounds under Section 10B of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act, which requires advertised prices to include all taxes, duties, levies and other charges.

Individuals can be fined up to RM50,000, jailed for up to two years or both, while companies face fines of up to RM100,000.

The Consumer Protection Act also makes misleading price displays an offence. Guidelines introduced in 2018 require the final price, including base price, service and delivery charges, to be shown before an order is confirmed. Armizan urged consumers to check final prices and report hidden charges to KPDN.
