The operation in Sabah’s Semporna district faced criticism from rights groups, urging the government to halt evictions and ensure the safety of the Bajau Laut. Sabah’s tourism minister, Christina Liew, emphasized the authority’s stance against illegal activities in protected areas, including unauthorized fishing, construction, and farming controlled by Sabah Parks, a state conservation agency.
