The government is prepared to consider making public the full report of the special committee that investigated former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholding, Malay Mail reported on Friday (Oct 30). The position was set out by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

Azalina was responding in a written parliamentary reply, published on the Parliament portal, to Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka). The Kota Melaka MP had asked about the committee’s findings on Azam’s shareholding, whether any action would be taken against him, and whether the government would disclose the report. Malay Mail also cited Berita Harian in its report.

Azam Baki Shareholding Probe Completed

According to the reply, the Special Investigation Committee set up on Feb 13 to examine the allegations has finished its work. Azalina said the committee carried out its investigation independently, transparently and professionally, and that its findings have been presented to the Cabinet.

The reply, as reported, did not disclose what the committee found or whether any action would follow. Azalina noted that the same question had been raised by another MP on June 25.

Azalina said the government is open to considering a recommendation to release the full report, and that disclosure would be weighed if necessary and after appropriate deliberation.

Any such decision, she said, must take into account existing legal provisions, particularly on the protection of personal information, the confidentiality of investigation documents and records of asset declarations, as well as the interests of the parties involved.

Chief Secretary to Make Any Announcement

Azalina added that, in line with a media statement issued on March 31, any announcement on the matter will come from the Office of the Chief Secretary to the Government. This would happen if there are developments or official decisions that need to be made public, she said.
