Belgium team now ask Trump to overturn 4-1 crushing defeat

SEATTLE, July 7 – Belgium Captain Youri Tielemans said the affair regarding the erasing of the red card for US player Balogun motivated the team to respond on the pitch. Belgium midfielder Nicolas Raskin said the squad felt a “sense of injustice” but channelled it into their performance.

After Belgium’s fourth goal, players mocked Trump’s signature campaign dance, while the national team’s Instagram posted striker Romelu Lukaku cupping his ear with the caption “overturn this.” Head coach Rudi Garcia praised his side’s maturity, insisting their focus remained on the game plan. Despite Balogun starting, Belgium’s dominance ensured the US exited the tournament in humiliating fashion.

Belgium stormed into the World Cup quarter-finals with a 4-1 victory over co-hosts United States, overshadowed by controversy surrounding striker Folarin Balogun’s suspension. Balogun had been shown a straight red card against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but FIFA suspended his one-match ban for 12 months following intervention from US President Donald Trump, sparking criticism from UEFA, Belgium and England coach Thomas Tuchel.
