LONDON, Aug 19, 2026 – A consortium including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has acquired close to 38% of Liverpool FC, according to The Athletic.
The deal was struck with Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool’s US-based owners, through 1892 Holdings, a group led by British-Indian millionaire Amit Bhatia and also featuring Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook. Reports suggest the consortium has an option to purchase a controlling stake within 12 months, though no formal commitment has been made.
Bezos Buying 38% Liverpool
Bezos, the world’s fourth-richest man with a net worth of US$256 billion, makes his first sports investment after previously being linked to NFL franchises. Bhatia, son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, stepped away from QPR ownership once his Liverpool involvement became public.
FSG bought Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million and sold a small stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023. The new investment could boost manager Andoni Iraola as Liverpool rebuild after last season’s fifth-place finish.
