Malaysia has recorded an unprecedented 11% decline in birth rates, sparking widespread concern. Social media users are voicing worries about the long-term consequences, fearing significant impacts on the country’s economy, workforce, and aging population in the years to come.

An X user boldly states that if he receives better pay, he will help with the increase in birth rates. This statement reflects what the majority of the population feels. Despite our lower living costs in comparison to the rest of the world, our much lower income is making it tough for new parents to prosper. 

Others state that judgment from other individuals is another issue. If one were to have a child, they may throw a tantrum in public, to which they’ll receive negative remarks or be filmed for a viral TikTok video.
