The Bangladesh National Party (BNP) secured a decisive two-thirds majority in general elections, winning at least 212 of 299 seats, according to domestic TV reports. The victory marks the party’s return to power after 20 years and follows months of unrest after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted in a Gen Z-led uprising.

BNP leader Tarique Rahman, son of party founder Ziaur Rahman, is expected to be sworn in as prime minister. The Islamist Jamaat-e-Islami and allies won 70 seats, while youth-led National Citizen Party secured only five. The BNP called for nationwide prayers instead of celebrations.
