Pakatan Harapan’s core supporters, despite feeling disillusioned, may continue supporting the coalition due to limited alternatives, says political analyst Wong Chin Huat. However, Wong warns that Anwar Ibrahim’s recent actions, such as welcoming Najib Razak’s apology for the 1MDB scandal, risk alienating these voters, making the coalition resemble former BN and PN governments. If disappointment grows, Wong believes many supporters will abstain from voting rather than back Perikatan Nasional, potentially leading DAP to lose a third of its seats, with PKR and Amanah facing similar declines. Wong calls the PM’s recent decisions “scoring an own goal,” stressing that leaders should appear receptive to public sentiment.
