PETALING JAYA, July 29, 2026 – Former Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan has warned that the government’s explanation for delaying the release of the Tabung Haji royal commission of inquiry (RCI) report to “avoid panic” could undermine public confidence in future inquiries. Speaking on the Keluar Sekejap podcast, Shahril said withholding reports only fuels suspicion. “Even if the reason is sincere, people will assume something is being hidden,” he noted, questioning why the report was delayed despite the inquiry concluding nearly two years ago.

Co-host Khairy Jamaluddin added that the RCI was established under former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, chaired by a former chief justice, and examined Tabung Haji’s management between 2014 and 2020, including asset transfers to Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the Cabinet will decide Wednesday whether to release the report, stressing the delay was to protect depositors’ confidence during restructuring.
