Casablanca vs Madrid: Battle for 2030 World Cup Final Venue

1 min read

CASABLANCA, July 19, 2026 – The venue for the 2030 World Cup final is shaping up to be a diplomatic and sporting tussle between Morocco and Spain, despite both countries co‑hosting the tournament alongside Portugal.

Casablanca vs Madrid

Spain insists the final will be played at either Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu (83,000 seats) or Barcelona’s Camp Nou (set to expand to 105,000), citing its proven organisational record. But Morocco is pushing hard for the newly planned Hassan II Stadium outside Casablanca, a US$12‑billion project with a capacity of 115,000, projected to be the largest in world football.

Spanish officials have questioned Morocco’s readiness, pointing to crowd trouble during the Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat earlier this year. Morocco’s football federation, however, says no decision has been made and discussions with FIFA continue.

If Casablanca is chosen, it would mark only the second time Africa hosts a World Cup final, after Johannesburg in 2010.
