Police have crippled an alleged child sex trafficking ring that is believed to have pocketed about RM450,000 a month by exploiting teenagers, foreigners and underage children for prostitution in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Aman said on Thursday (Oct 22).
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said seven suspects aged between 18 and 44 were picked up during a special operation, codenamed Ops Angel, carried out with Selangor police from Sept 24 to 26.
The group, which police identified as “Geng Yunaa”, is believed to have 10 members and to be led by a local man in his 30s. Two other members were already in custody, one at Kajang Prison and another at Henry Gurney School in Melaka, over earlier child trafficking and prostitution offences. One suspect is still at large.
How the Alleged Ring Operated
According to police, the syndicate had been active since early 2024 and advertised its services through a Telegram channel. Investigators believe 20 to 30 sex workers were offered to customers every day, with demand reaching about 100 customers daily.
Customers were allegedly charged between RM200 and RM350 depending on the package and location, with the group keeping about RM150 from each transaction. Payments were made in cash, through Touch ‘n Go or via bank QR codes to agents linked to the gang.
Police estimate that the operation could bring in RM15,000 a day, or RM450,000 a month. If that pace continued, the takings would have reached about RM5.4 million a year.
Kumar said the case was especially troubling because it went beyond trafficking people for profit to the exploitation of children. Several of the suspects were found to have prior records for offences including prostitution, human trafficking, drugs and fraud.
Child Sex Trafficking Ring Members Face Charges
Police seized 14 mobile phones during the raids, along with other items believed to be linked to the vice activities. Investigators have linked the group to 17 cases so far.
The seven suspects arrested in the operation were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) until Friday (Oct 23).
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has agreed that nine members of the group be charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code. The suspects are scheduled to be charged at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on Friday (Oct 23).
Police Vow Continued Action
Kumar said police would keep up action against any individual or group involved in organised crime, and that efforts to track down the remaining member of the gang were continuing.
