KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21, 2026 – PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has recalled the late Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s decision to shut down gambling outlets during his tenure as Kelantan’s Menteri Besar, saying the move had unexpected support from segments of the Chinese community.

Speaking in a Chinese-language podcast, Tuan Ibrahim said several Chinese families had thanked Nik Aziz for reducing household financial strain. “They said, ‘Thank you Tok Guru, because now our husbands have money, they no longer waste it at gambling shops, and they spend more time with their families,’” he recounted.
While stressing that non-Muslims’ rights to practice activities permitted by their faith must be respected, Tuan Ibrahim argued that all religions prohibit immoral acts. He added that PAS only restricts Muslims from gambling, but if a religion itself forbids such practices, PAS enforces that principle.
